Current Event for the Week of 2/5/07

NASA astronaut, Lisa Nowak, was arrested Wednesday for traveling 900 miles from Texas to Floria, while wearing adult diapers to avoid bathroom breaks, to confront a woman in the Air Force who she believed was romantically involved with her husband. Psychologist believe it makes "a weird kind of sense" and could possibly be caused by her space missions. NASA is currently revamping their application process to enhance psychological screening during the astronaut application process.

Read the article here.

Can you identify with Lisa Nowak? Do you think you experience "a lovely state of psychosis" when you fall in love? Do you agree that Nowak may have aquired a personality disorder from space, or should it have been NASA's responsibility to screen more thoroughly?

I cannot identify with Lisa Nowak. I hope that when I do fall in love I experience “a lovely state of psychosis”; however, I don’t think I’ve fallen in love yet so I wouldn’t know. I think that Nowak aquired a personality disorder from emotional stress, not from going to outer space. It’s hard for me to say she should be convicted of attempted murder because she was in such an emotional state but all the evidence points against her. I don’t think NASA should be blamed in any way for what Nowak did. Even with all the accomplishments Nowak had, she is still human and made a big mistake. NASA cannot be responsible for Nowak at all times. Although I’m sick of hearing about Nowak’s love triangle, I found this article really funny.

Love is a something that you don't even plan on happening. I know from personal experiences with myself and others close to me that basically, Love makes you do stupid things... Should she be guilty of that? A lot of people are, a lot of people think of evil plans when they lose the one they love to someone else but few are nieve enough to do something extreme about it. This is deffinately a serious problem among people because I know someone who attempted suicide over a high school sweetheart after a break up. I'm a little of both ways on this subject because Love is mesmorizing but at the same time just because you're in a bad emotional state doesn't give you the excuse to attempt something serious to harm someone else.

Well i cant identify lisa but i do agree that this kinda stuff does happen and that there is a kind of love phsychosis.. but i think she was just dealin wit anxiety of some sort or some kind of disorder..If she loves him as much as she says than she must trust him... I dont think nasa should be the blame for any of this nonsense.. She is an adult and she should know whats right from wrong.. work things out with out being a psycho about it!!!
