Girl kicked off plane after coughing fit
A 16-year-old girl who caught a cold during a school trip to New York was kicked off her flight home because she was coughing. Continental said in a statement that Collier was coughing "uncontrollably" on the plane Tuesday and that "the captain felt he was acting in the best interest of the passenger and other passengers on the flight."

Do you agree or disagree with the pilot's decision? Was it justified or should they have just listened to the plane's doctor?

I think what the piolt did was uncalled for. The girl had a coughing spell ! it wasnt like she was dying, and ontop of that the DOCTOR said she would be okay. i feel that he had no reasonable reason to have her taken off the flight. I would have been irate if i was held off a flight due to coughing. I myself have been on several flights where people have been coughing the whole time and not one flight personel made a deal about it.
The pilot's decision was rather ridiculous. It's not as if the girl was screaming, "I'M A TERRORIST WITH BOMBS!"
They should have absolutely listened to the plane's DOCTOR. But whatever, what's a medical license next to a license to fly planes?
i think that the pilot was being totally unfair. the girl was going to be fine, everyone gets a cough every now and then, everything would have been fine. the pilot was just being irrational.
i think that the pilot made a bad decision. he is not a doctor he souldn't have kicked her off even if she was coughing. i think just about everybody coughs atleast once a day. so whats wrong with that? she couldn't help what she was doing. if i was teh girl there would be cops going after that guy.
I dont think the piolit should have kicked her off the plane because she had a cough. There are many people who go on and off of the plan who are ill, so why limit just this young girl because she had a cough? They should have listend to the doctor. A piolit has his license to fly planes, not diginos people with an illness.
i think the pilot was overreacting just a little bit. so what the girl ws coughing, i dont see the big deal behind all this. it sounds like the pilot wanted to make it a big deal and hes probably sitting at home right now thinking hes somebody because of what he did but honestly hes a nothing. he just wanted a little bit of attention and he got it. what he doesnt understand is that hes getting the exact opposite of what he wanted, hes getting all the negative attention.but he will never know that until someone tells him how much of an idiot he is.
I think that this was completely uncalled for. There is no need to be kicked off of a plane because you are coughing. Even the doctor on the plane said that she would be alright. Now if the doctor would have said that she wouldnt be able to make it through the 10 hour flight then I would have felt that it would have been a better idea to have her get off of the plane. The pilot has a pilots license not a medical degree, he shouldnt have been able to have kicked her off of the plane. Also this not only incoinvinced her, it also incoinvinced the teacher and probably her parents and the other people on the plane.
i rhink that is ridiculous. everyone coughes ever now and then and if she could fly bc of that. the doctor even said she was fine, they should have listened to the doc. i would be so mad if i was that lady
If the doctor said the girl would have been okay, then she should have been able to stay on the plane. The pilot made the wrong decision but it is no big deal and the airline offered to pay.
I don't see what the big deal is. They were just concerned about the health of the other passengers. They were probably taking safety precautions just incase it was some crazy virus bound to effect others. She got all her money back and accomodations were made.
I agree with the decision of the pilot on the plane. It is a pilot's responsibility to ensure that his/her passengers are safe and comfortable for the duration of the flight. If the girl involved in this incident were to spread her illness to other passengers, the pilot is the person who takes the blame for the incident, NOT the doctor. Airplanes are close quarter vehicles, which makes the passengers on the plane even more succeptible to catching an illness. Also, an airplane's pilot is not notified about every little coughing fit that a person has. This must have been a pretty serious incident to draw the attention of the pilot. The girl even admits to not being able to speak, and she said that everybody was looking at her. To me, that signifies that her situation was pretty serious. Also, the airline reimbursed the school for the money that they had to spend on a hotel and the accomodations. The teacher and student that stayed behind were also flown home the next day on free tickets. There was no loss of money experienced by the school or student here.
Given the above argumentation, I see no reason why the pilot made a bad decision. There is no offensive reason as to why the pilot should have allowed the girl to stay on the flight. The pilot was in a situation where he/she had the option to be risky or safe. If nothing bad can come from it, then why not err on the side of caution?
I think that kicking her off the flight was a little extreme. Yes a coughing fit may be a little annoying but it happens to the best of us. What would the captain of done if after he kicked her off the plain something happened to the girl and her teacher. I think they should have listened to the doctor and let her finish the flight.
