Current Event for Week of 10/16/06

Yankees pitcher killed in crash of small plane in Manhattan

Moments after the single-engine plane slammed into the New York City high-rise, military and other federal officials were on a conference call assessing the situation. Minutes later, fighter aircraft were circling at least a half-dozen cities, prepared to shoot down airborne intruders.

How is this response to the article a reflection of our society? Do you think it was an over reaction? Give your opinions on the incident.

I think that NORAD sending out the fighter jets wasn't an over reaction because they weren't just searching for terrorists, they were securing the area from all planes. Part of it was a reflection of our society post 9/11 but I believe that it was more of an all around safety issue.
Small plane crashes happen all the time, and it's sad that people die, but you never hear of them unless it is someone who is famous or well known.

I don't think that it is fair that the death of Cory Lidle is publicized but if that had been someone from Perry, no one would have cared except for the family of that person.

Honestly Society is going down the tubes. End of story. I mean I personally feel SOOOOO much safer now than before 9/11
