Latest food-fad -- ' space potatoes '

In Shanghai, China a new food is what every restaurant wants this Valetine's Day. Space potatoes! These potatoes are slightly sweeter and are purple. They were grown on a Chinese space shuttle. Scientists say they're just like the potatoes grown in labs.

Read this article here.

Should space grown foods be served in restaurants without even really being tested first? Should food be even grown in space? We have plenty of farms here on earth.

Does it really matter where food is grown? Let people think their potatoes are special, it doesn't make a difference, they're still eating potatoes... they just happen to be low-gravity potatoes. Heck, I'd eat one just so I could say I ate a space potato.

I don't really understand why testing is necessary as to whether or not the potatoes are okay to eat. It's not like they were grown in contaminated soil... in space.

I'm not so sure that I would want to eat one of these space potatoes before they have gone through testing. There are a lot of things that we might not know about this growing process that could pose hazards to us.

I don't see why it is necessary to grow food in space yet...it seems like Earth is doing a pretty good job in the status quo. I think there is a lot of potential to use space to meet our everyday needs, it will just take a while before we get the opportunity to do so.

I peronally would want further testing to occur before eating something that has been exposed to space radiation. I'm not entirely sure that I would eat a potato that comes from space if it hadn't been tested and proven to be safe to eat.
