SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Officials have tried poison, gassing and euthanasia to control a breeding frenzy among squirrels in a city park here. Now, they plan to give birth control a shot.
Under a new program to start this summer, squirrels in Palisades Park will be injected with an immuno-contraceptive vaccine to stunt their sexual development.
"We don't want to kill them if we don't have to," said Joe McGrath, the city's parks chief. "I personally like squirrels, but we also have to be receptive to the county's concerns."

I think it is a good idea if they are causing a problem to the society but other than tht yeah it is kind of messed up and i have no idea wut the birth control would do to the squirrels and to be honest i only thought birth control worked on humans!
I believe that the birth control is a good idea if they dont get carried away. If they get carried away with it and after the squirrls start to die off how will they reproduse. Then it is going to cause the city more money to have to bring in more squirrls to repopulate the squirrls. So if they are carefull to not get carried away then there should be no problem. I personally like squirrls and have no problem with them what so ever. I would be upset if the government told us that there were to many babies being made and that all the men and women would have to take birth control. Just dont get to carried away.....
I think the birth control is a good idea. It seems that everyone, including the animal activists, are happy with the proposal to decrease the population of squirrels. Plus, it is a safety precaution for the city. I don't know if this method is proven to work, but it sounds like a reasonable/fresh solution.
Wow... I never thought there would be a day where I was reading an article about overpopulation in SQUIRRELS! I totallay agree with the vaccination! Squirrels are vicious little boogers, especially the ones at my house. Personally I know if I saw a squirrel foaming at the mouth to stay away from it, but there are somepeople who just don't realize that they could harm you, so it's better that the state of California takes care of it.
