Current Event for the Week of 10/19

Colbert announces presidential pursuit.

Steven Colbert of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" announced his presidency run. Stephen said that he planned to run in South Carolina only. The state is one of the key early primaries, and is also Stephen's home state. He also said that he would run as a Republican and a Democrat, so that he could "lose twice."

Read the article here.

What do you think of Colbert's presidency run? How far do you think he will take his mock-run? Would you ever vote for a comedian to be president? What do you think would happen if he won South Carolina?

As much as i like steven colbert i don't think he would make a great president. It would be interesting if he actually ran and won but come on how do we know if he'll take the job seriously if he did win? I mean with him being a comedian and all he would probably make a joke about serious matters and deal with them in a unpresidential way. It would be like Arnold S. the governer of california. People voted because they knew him and though it would be interesting to see an actor as governer, not because they thought he could do some good things in the state. Colber is a great comedian but i think he should just stay a comedian.

I think colbert should stick to comedy. Is American government not already mocked enough? ... That now a comedian must run for presidency? Obviously Steven Colbert has seen the movie "man of the year" (where robin williams plays a comedian who becomes president) a few too many times. Remember steve, "man of the year" is only a movie, it's fictional.

I think this is an example of where our government is headed. It is as much the publics fault as the government and politicians though. This is a humorous thought that Steven Colbert will run for presidency, but think of it as we are making fun of and not taking the run for the biggest and most important job in our nation seriously. There probably is a decent shot of him winning South Carolina because it is his home state and because many people like the comedian. Enough people don't care or take voting seriously so they would propbably be more likely to vote for the well known and well liked comedian than some politician who isn't a funny man hosting a successful tv show. People don't want to have to research presidential candidates so they could just vote fro Steven Colbert who announces and makes fun of his ideas and views on his tv show.
