Texas death row inmate commits suicide

Michael Johnson was a convicted killer that was facing the lethal injection in Texas. Fifteen hours before he was supposed to be killed he was found in his cell in a pool of blood. Johnson committed suicide by slitting his throat and wrist. He used a sharp peice of metal attached to what seemed to be a wooden popsicle stick. It is apparant that Johnson had written words on the walls but the autorities will not release what they were. Johnson is at least the 7th person to commit suicide before the planned tiem to be put to death since death row reopened in 1974 in Texas.

Read the article here.

What was the purpose of committing suicide? Wouldn't it have been easier, and less painful, for him to just take the lethal injection? Do you find it strange that the guards didn't notice anything?

i think that because he was imprisoned he wanted his last act to be one of his own will and choice . i believe he was seeking to feel in control of his fate. he also obviously felt that he needed to get a message out.
though i wander why he didnt just use paper....

The guards probably didn't care or assumed that he had no items of which to do that with.
I also think that his suicide was probably the idea that lethal injection was wrong. I wouldn't want to be injected with something that would make me convulse and have to be strapped to a hospital bed type thing to die.
