I personally don't see why people have a problem with the fat black woman aspect of this movie. It is a comedy movie that's just for fun. I think women who are offended by the movie are taking the idea of it too seriously. People of all kinds are made fun of all the time in comdedy. Making fun of differnt people is a huge part of the comedy industry. It's not always right but I think you just have to take it in stride. Roll with the punches. We're not all perfect so I don't see the problem in makeing humor of it every so often. In fact I look foward to seeing Norbit.
i understand that fact that people are offened by the fat black women concept in this movie. but seriously come one, tell me you havent see other types of people and what not get made fun of in movies or anything for that matter in comdey. thats just what comedians do so if you dont like it, then dont watch it. i found that movie pretty fun actually!
I don't understand why people would get huffy over a movie. If they don't like the concept, then don't watch it. It's suppose to be funny, and people who don't get that are probably putting too much thought into it. I, myself, want to go see this movie. In reference with the African deal, it all goes with how different societies view different things. They don't make a big deal about it, so I wonder why we should?
I dont really see why this is making people so upset. People need to figure out that this is ment for enertainment, just like rape videos. rape videos discriminate women, and explict women as sex symbols. Thers also other movies that could be taken the wrong way. It depends on which generation your from and how your raised. So in my oppion unless we are about to take rape videos and movies like Jackass and Saturday Night Live off the air then theres nothing people are going to do. I dont think this movie is offensive but if you do, then its your oppion.
no. i don't think this movie is discriminating against heavy african american women. Nobody said a word when eddie murphy made the nutty professor. I could possibly see where people would be offended if perhaps a white man were making the movie dressed up as a heavy black woman, but it's eddie murphy. come on. first, comedy is all about making fun of things. that's why it's fun. we make it fun, that's what "making fun" implies, is it not? eddie murphy is satirizing his own racial group, and I say that's alright with me. I hope it's a good movie in fact, because i plan on seeing it.
i personally think that many people have the right to be angry with the movie because not only does it descriminate against blacks but also against women! Just because a women is skinny doesnt mean shes anymore beautiful then a heavier women! I hoestly think that everyone has their own opinion about what looks good and its not anyone elses place to judge! I think our society is a bit too layed back and doesn't care or realize that what we see as comedy is offensive because we make jokes about others and consider it comedy!
I don't think that people should be making as big of a deal about this as they do. Most comedy that has come out recently makes fun of one stereotype or another. People need to realize that they aren't the only one who are being made fun of and if they take offense then not to go see the movie.
People are blowing this whole situation out of proportion. It is just a movie and that is all it is. The intent of the movie is to make people who watch it laugh and if someone is offended by the content of the movie they should just completely ignore it and let it be.
I don't see why people are taking offense to this. If they take offense to the fat black woman in the movie then why aren't they taking offense to movies like Big Mama's House and others that have fat black women in them. People are taking this way out of hand. The movie was intended for enjoyment so enjoy it.
I can understand why some people would be offended but that just means dont go watch the movie. Its just a movie and i dont think the directors were trying to target them. This is not as nearly as bad as some of the other things ive heardcomedians say and they are not taking any offense to them. I think its just another way to get attention and stir up problems. Eddie Murphy has done other movies that are like this and those havent been a problem. There are other movies that make fun of people. I dont think its meant to be directed at anyone in particular and I dont understand what the big deal is.
i dont think that this is meant to be offensive at all. There have been many other movie's made about plus size people and no one has said anything negative about it. It's meant to be a comedy, not to be a slam at a group of people.
Why are people getting so upset about this movie? This movie is a comedy, it's supposed to be funny. If you don't like what's happening in it, then don't watch it. It's Eddie Murphy, the guy has done other things like this before && no one said anything then.
I can understand why some people may see this movie as offensive but I personally don't think it discrimates against larger black women or women in general. I do think this movie is being taken out of hand--It's a comical movie, if you don't like what is in it, don't see it.
i understand how people feel offended by the fat black women thing but its a comedy and comedies do have to make fun of something of ir wouldn't be funny.
- i think people are taking it too far because after all it is a comedy, and made to make people laugh. Get a sense of humor or dont watch it. the end
It's just a stupid movie, like most movies. I don't understand how a movie like this could be controversial. It's not meant to be realistic, it's meant to be stupid. Who cares is "shapelessness is something to be adored", nobody takes movies like this seriously.
If there is a controversy it should be about why this movie was ever put into theaters. Getting angry about the plot only gives the movie more credit than it deserves. It's stupid, shouldn't be taken seriously and shouldn't be watched... ever. Save your money for something worth watching.
WOW...This movie was blown way out of proportion. I just saw the move last night, and I was laughing the whole entire time. I dont think that it is DISCRIMINATING black women. Rephusia didn't think she was over weight, or anything so it's not like the chacacter in the movie was focusing on her weight. Also I believe that this movie is rasing drama because there is an African American women in it. Was there any reviews and bad critics out when Shallow Hal came out? None that i can remember. Jack Black's career wasn't ruined, so keep them halarious comedies coming Eddie Murphy!!!
