In regards to Don Imus, do you think it is fair that Imus was canned for his actions and ill words against the Rutgers Womens' Basketball team? What about his cohort Bernard McGuirk? Do you think that the first amendment protects his right to free speech, campaign or press?

The minority will ALWAYS have the right to use the terms used against them because it is more than likely that the minority will not use these words in a negative way. When someone completely unwelcome to a minority community decides to use these words, it will not be accepted. It will never be accepted. Black people won't get in trouble for using the "N" word, gay people won't get in trouble for saying, "Faggot", and Mexicans won't get in trouble for using the word, "Wetback". Those who are not part of the minority cannot use these words without being seen as a racist or a bigot and that's how it will always be because that's how it usually is. It’s not hypocrisy, it’s simple fact. Racist or bigoted terms hold no venom when they’re being used by those who they’re used against. Most heterosexual people will never get a chance to find out what it’s like to be hated because of who you are. You could be called a “honkey” or a “cracker”, but do those words hold any negative history against your people?
What Imus said was ignorant and unjustified and he got what he deserved. Also, his first amendment rights were not taken away at all. He was fired for using words of bigotry and the sponsors of that station were going to pull out if he was not fired. So, he was fired for his own idiocy, not because the station felt he was stepping outside of his legal first amendment rights.
I think Imus should be punished, but not necessarily kicked off the show. Yes, he said something inappropriate, but he went directly to the basketball team and apologized; his show is all about making humorous remarks to draw a crowd.
I think that if Imus was fired, so should Bernard McGuirk. He helps write the things being said, so he should be punished even though it didnt come out of his mouth.
I think the right to free speech is taken away in this scenario. People are going to be offended by anything people say and could take things the wrong way.
I don't think that it was fair that he got fired for what he said. I don't agree with what he said and I don't want to sound racist; howver, if a black man were to have said what DOn Imus said, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. HIs freedom of speech was violated because he got fired for something he said. He never threatened anyone, or put anyone's life in danger. I dont agree with what he did, but at the same rate, I don't believe he should have been fired either.
I dont think the first amendment covers racist and sexist comments. Imus should jave known better than to use those kinds of frases on the air. Your not even aloud to say the f bomb on the air so they should not be able to say racist or sexist comments. He got what he diserved and should have known it was coming.
It wasn't appropriate, it wasn't professional of course I think he deserved to have his job yanked.
I don't think that it was fair that Imus was fired. What he said was wrong I don't disagree with that. What they should have done was let it go. If it was that big of a deal, people would stop listening to him. Then his job would be shot anyway. If he lost that many listeners then sponsers would stop promoting him. He would eventually fall from his position. I don't like Imus but getting fired for that was just stupid. You know what I thought what he said was hilarious. It doesn't make any sence that minorities get special treatment about what they can say. What they say about us (cracker, etc.) is said out of hate and they call themselves that anyway. If it aws that big of deal no one would say any of these things. Therefore both are wrong. Same thing goes for McGuirk. He shouldn't have been fired either. People are so stupid they don't think about anything, they only jump to irrational thoughts about people. Anything someone thought bad about Imus, is just as bad as what he said without physically voicing it. Think about that before you say anything bad about Don Imus.
