Current Event for the Week of 12/21
New movie coming out staring Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is said to be as much as a horror film as a musical. It expresses a breathtakingly, rigorously pessimistic view of human nature. As it was originally performed onstage, with all the songs Mr. Sondheim composed for it, "Sweeney Todd" balanced its inherent grisliness with a whimsical vitality.

What do you think of the movie idea? How do you think it will be? Do you think it's strange to have a horror movie that is a musical? Will you go see this movie?

I'm never one to judge a movie but before i see it but this one just seems a bit odd. i'm willing to see it, it just may not be until the dollar movie or its on DVD. I think its a brave step for the director to make a horror musical. All the more power to him i suppose.
Well, I'm a huge fan of both Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. So this may be a little biased.
I've seen bits and pieces of this movie already, and from that I've seen, it's an exceptionally good movie. This isn't the first movie that's been a horror/musical, well modern horror yes. Little Pet Shop of Horrors is a musical/horror movie, and it turned out great!
I will defiantly be seeing this movie. ^-^
I don't think this is a weird combination at all, it's basically like Edward Scissorhands only with people singing. Just because of the combination doesn't mean that someone should automatically assume that the movie is bad. I would see this movie even if Johnny Depp wasn't in it. It seems like a really creative movie and I'm sure it's going to be really good.
well I love Johnny Depp and Helena Bonhem Carter but this movie just seems dumb! Im really not into horror movies and putting the musical with a horror movie just makes it so its not a horror movie. I dont plan on going to see this one!
It's different and something new instead of all the regular movies. It's a little strange to have a horror musical movie but i think it will be interesting. I would probaby go see the movie but it just all depends.
Personally i think this movie will be very good and very interesting. I agree with shann0nx2010;Lauren; Brittni when they say that its just like Edward Scissorhands. I think its a pretty cool idea of a horror/musical. I bet there have been some but not many, and this looks like a good one.
I will defianetly go see this movie, but not because it seems like something i'd like. I am only going to see it because im in love with Johnny Depp. I think its really weird having a musical along with horror. It makes me not want to see if because i hate horror movies, but i love musicals. But, maybe it will be a really good combination and become all the rage just like holy jeans. Who knew someday having holes in your jeans would be cool?
I deffinetly have never heard of a horror movie musical combo; but I have no doubt in my mind that Johny Depp can pull it off ! I'm intrested in seeing Johnny Depp sing though? I do plan on seeing this movie; to see if a horrow musical can really be done. I have high hope. Tim Burton of all people can probably do it.
This movie seems kind of weird to me. From the previews I can't really decide what its about or what to think of it. It just seems very different. I don't know how well the musical horror film will work. It seems very out of the ordinary but that might be what people are looking for instead of the same old repetative storylines.
I love the idea of a horror-musical entirely! I love musicals and that whole horror aspect. Although it seems that it will be a little violent and gory (which doesn't really bother me). Although I am dying to see this and well, honestly I've been waiting for a movie-musical with dark aspects. (and for those of you who know me I've come up with ideas for such musicals about vampires and demons and serial killers, so it'll be like something from my mind I believe). It's not the first horror-musical to come out either: there is a B-way musical based on Dracula; some consider Phantom to be a horror; Dance of the Vampires; Bat-Boy: The Muscial (to some extent) and I'm sure there are many more but those are ones that I can think of off of the top of my head. And as for the plot: I think it is creative and I think what makes it so creative is the fact that it is a musical and if it were not a musical no one would even question the movie.
