CURRENT EVENT FOR THE WEEK OF 11/16/07
In this article, a teacher from Nebraska was charged with kidnapping and Child abuse. She flew her 13 year old student ( who was an illegal immigrant ) back to Mexico, to get away from the investigation of their relationship; back in Lexington. It was said that he might have been older than 13, even 16 years old... which would cancel the stagetory rape charges.

I think that both the boy and the teache should be charged because she was older and he went with her willingly. Kids know the consequences for being wih someone older that 18 if they are not at least 16 and the boy is just as guilty as the woman. As for the boys age, they should just accept what relatives say, leave it at that and charge both of them. I think that the boy left willingly because he probably would have been able to get away from the woman and should have told someone. This is all stuff that they teach us in school about strangers and what to do if someone touches you. We have all learned this in around first grade and some schools are teaching it as early as pre-school.
I think the woman shouldn't be charged with rape, does it say that they even did it and why? it said that the boy was groping the teacher adn the teacher was taking the student back to Mexico, i dont know why a teacher would have a relationship with a student at all thats just sick!!! I'm sure the boy went undemanded and willingly because if they were going to have sex than he surely probably wanted too!! He's a boy and he pprobalby started everything to get the teacher in trouble just to sue her so his family could get money from her and the school becasue most mexicans in Mexico arent very rich and if that was the plan then he's smart and should be caught!! That teacher didn't look guiltty i know the student made stuff up and put together everything just to frame the teacher and get some money! The teacher doesnt deserve any punishment! The kid needs to stay in mexico and go to the officials to see how old he really is! He needs to be banned from the U.S. for life!!!
this story is just gross. the teacher should be charged and go to jail. I'm pretty sure that the school made it well known that teacher/student relationships are against the law and there will be consequences if caught. The fact that she had to leave the country to be alone with this boy is already suspicious to me. I don't see why they wouldn't just trust the relatives and say that the boy is 13. Even if he is 16, he's still underage and she needs to go to jail. I doesn't matter if he was an illegal immigrant. She kidnapped this boy and left the country for whatever reasons. Even if he went with her willingly, she needs to be punished becasue she is the adult and should know that that is not right. I think the boy should be allowed to stay in the us. I don't think he was making this big scam for money or anything. I think he's just a 13 year old kid.
First let me say this is by far one of the dumbest things i have ever heard. If the boy is in fact only 13 years of age then the lady should be charged with rape because he is not at the age of concent. It actually doesent actually matter if the boy isn't 16 yet because in the U.S., unless the boy is 18 it is still illegal because she is more than four years older than him. She should be charged with kidnapping though. If the child is an illegal immigrant then who is he living with and are they also illegal immigrant. If they are they should either file for citizenship or be deported.
I think this whole thing is sick and confusing. First of all, I think the teacher should be punished becuase it's wrong for any teachers to have relationships like that with their students. If the boy really is 16 or older, then it seems like he may be trying to get the teacher in trouble for rape by lying about his age. I think the first step to solving this case would be to find out his real age. Once that is determined it seems like it may be easier to come to the conclusion on the teahcer and the students motives.
Since the child was an illegal immigrant, that is an issue that needs addressed. He needs to apply for a green card. The teacher should get in trouble because even if the child is 16 or 13 its still nasty and illegal for a teacher to have relations with a student. The whole story is nasty. Both of them should get in trouble.
I think this is a hard decision. She should be charged with rape because it was with a minor, but then again we're not sure whether or not they did have sex. Another thing to is that the boy went with Peterson to Mexico when he knew it wasn't right. I think the boy left the United States willingly, but then again I think Peterson persuaded or bribed him. There really isn't a way, that i know of, on how to find out his age. If the boy wants to testify then he should be allowed. I also think that the boy should be punished for his illegal residency because if he is 12, then he should know better than to go into another country without papers.

I think that the teacher should definately be charged. There is no instance in which this "relationship" would be okay. It doesn't matter if he went willingly or not. They both still left. I believe that the boy really is 13, it shouldn't matter if he's 16 or not, he should still be charged because it's still really wrong. He's still a minor in a relationship with a much older woman, a teacher nonetheless. I hope the teacher gets fired because who said she's not going to do it again? For someone to be in a relationship with a student means there is something wrong with her. Teachers should never have anything more than a professional relationship with a student. Anything more than that is wrong and illegal. This boy should also have known better so he should be punished just as much as the teacher.
So, if they did have an affair she should definately be charged with statutory rape even if he was 16, a high school teacher should not be having an affair with one of her students even if he/she is of the age of consent. He was kidnapped, he may have been willing but the teacher probably used her feminine wiles to coax him into going, which would make him a victim. He should testify against her and as of the question whether or not he should be punished for his illegal immigrancy... he should probably be punished. I am all for immigrants... but if they do it legally.
you have to be out of your mind to do something like this. if this woman honestly has to do things with a 13 year old then that is just repulsive. she has every right to go to jail because the boy is not legal and is only 13. another bad reason is that he is an illegal immigrant. either the woman is trying to get him in trouble or the boy is trying to get them both in trouble.
i don't see how this is so repulsive. what if they actually were in love? it's not like it isn't possible. i don't think she should get in trouble. the fact that he is an illegal immigrant is iffy. he should become legal or stay in his own country, but really, i think people of different ages can still be together and do what they want. not that everyone thinks so, and not that court would agree, either. this is an odd story, though.

I don't think he should be able to testify, because he technically is not American, which means he doesnt have the rights that an american does. I think he is a victim but also no because he is an illegal immigrant. Either way though, the lady should be charged with kidnapping. As for rape? it said abuse, not rape. Therefore, she should be charged to the full exten of child abuse, or even assault.

THIS is so gross!!! i think this woman should be charged with rape! she knows/ should know the consiquenses of sleeping with a minor even if they are "in love".i mean for goodness sakes shes 26!!!! i think the boy should be able to stay in the U.S and not forced to stay in mexico. this teacher is sick!! and the crazy thing is that this is happening more and more!!
