By Daniella Guzman
HOUSTON -- Parents said they were terrified when they found out what a substitute teacher has been teaching their fifth-grade children, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
“…she shouldn't be learning that at school," said the unidentified student's mother.
The student said that the teacher said she was teaching them about health.
'“…the hormones in the food will kill you," said the student.
…the teacher told the class there is rat poison in toothpaste.

Do you think that the teacher has the right to tell the children the things that she did? Do you agree with the parents and see why they are upset? Do you think that “Sister Jessica” should be fired?

No, I do not think that the teacher should have been able to tell the students what she did. All it did was scare the children and now some are even afraid to do stuff or go to certian places. I don't think that the principal should have told her what to do. He should have fired her or gotten the police involved because of what she said.
This lady is pyscho. She should not have been saying those things to a class of fifth graders. She had no right to place her beliefs in fron of the kids and tell them to take notes on her "lesson". I am really suprised that the school seemed to take it so well. Usually they freak if you get on the topic of religion, but this lady is allowed to speak out about not believing in God, and male bashing without a problem. She needs to be fired, and get soem help. The schools need to be more involved and careful about who they are placing in these schools to influence their children.
I don't think the teacher should have said what she said to the fifth grade students. They are young and shouldn't hear things about certain things killing you. It probably scared them. Also, what she told them wasn't fact, it was opinion. Although you should be able to voice your opinion, but not in school. The substitute should have been teaching stuff on the lesson plan. Things she said were false, likle sugar is crack? What?? I think the teacher should be fired, or some kind of punishment, but i don't think the federal government needs to be informed, its not that big of a deal that some pyscho teacher told them some nonsense stuff.
I don't think that the substitute teacher should be teaching the students the things she did. The students that age believe what their teachers say because they are older and know more things. If you were in fifth grade and your teacher said that to you, wouldn't you believe them and be scared to use any of the things that they warned you about? I would. I most definitely see why the parents are upset and they have the right to be. I also think that "Sister Jessica" should be fired because what she did was wrong and should be punished: even if her teaching license are suspended.
I think the punishment was way too light. Teachers have been fired for telling kindergarteners that there is no Santa, and for saying curse words. Yet this teacher rants about religion and her opinions about "health". Obviously she is not in her right state of mind for not even considering who she was talking to and what about. I don't blame the parents at all for reacting this way and I do think that the substitute needs to be fired or get her license taken away. It's weird that this hasn't happened before, where she's done something like this. It's really ironic how she wants to be called "Sister" Jessica yet she says she doesn't believe in God. What would make this lady completely disregard what the teacher instructed her to teach? There is obviously something not right in this lady's mind.
I completely do not agree with what this "Sister Jessica" has been teaching. These kids are very young and impressionable; they cannot fully distinguish when someone in a position of power like herself is exaggerating or even just plain talking nonsense. Yes, eating meals from fast food places and putting unnatural chemicals in your hair is damaging to your body's health. However, there is a much less violent way to teach that. Besides, I do not even think it was her place to be teaching kids those things. She is a teacher and should be following the school's curriculum.
Sister Jessica should most definately be fired. She "taught" kids things that no teacher should be teaching to little fifth-grade children or anyone at all. She should not bring her own personal beliefs about God or the food industry and force the students to take notes on them altough she has the right to her own opinions and Beliefs she shouldn't tell them to children that they are the only way and her telling them that they'll die if they brush their teeth and other things to scare them. She had no right and I totally agree with the parents and their concern. The school should have punished her more severely and she should not be teaching anymore. As someone else said teachers have been fired for telling students that there was no Santa Claus and what Sister Jessica did was worse than that.

i think that the teacher is entitled to freedom of speech but then again needs to realize what exactly she is saying. you can not say things like that to elementary school children. in most schools they stress that religion is not to be talked about in school and religious beliefs. she is telling the students what to believe and what is right and wrong. i think the school should look in to who they are hiring first before they just find someone.
There is obviously a problem with substitute teachers in schools today. Many of the teachers are just there to get paid and they dont know anything about anything. Peronally i think that there shoud be higher standards for being able to be a sub. The sub from this article definatley needs to be banned from subbing anywhere ever again.
