Veterinarian Accused of Putting Son in Dog Crate

A veterinarian is accused of putting his 4-year-old son in a dog crate for two hours as punishment last month. Police in this Youngstown suburb arrested Joseph J. Mullarkey Jr., 39, on Monday as he returned from lunch to work at a pet clinic. He is charged with felony child endangering.

What do you think about this story? Do you think the father was right or wrong? How do you think the father should be punished?

This story is absolutly absurd!!! oh my gosh this man is seriously mental! to punish your kid you dont need to put him/her in a dog crate! hasn't he ever heard of timeout? this guy should get up to at least a year in prison. i mean a normal veternarian parent would not put there kid in a crate. The poor child was in the thing for two hours and had his own urine on him! Hopefully that kid wont be scarred by dog crates when hes older!

I do not understand what he was thinking when he did this. It is awful. Send a kid to their room or ground them if they do something wrong. It is ridiculous. I think that this is a case where the father should be put through the same thing the son did. I know an eye for an eye isn't always right, but I cannot believe a father would do that to his son. I think it is mean to put animals in changes let alone human beings.

This is disturbing. Who in their right mind thinks it's okay to put a little kid in a dog cage, to st in urine and old itchy fur? The ocasionally time out with your nose in the corner is punishment enough.
the man deserves his punishment.

Quite frankly..I don't think this is too bad. Worst things have happened to kids, and to be put in a crate might even protect this kid from doing worse things outside of it. The kid obviously remembers the punishment and I know would think twice before doing whatever he did again. Kids are really gross anyway. I don't see this punishment as totally bad, and the guy shouldn't be punished too severely.

what could this kid have done that was bad enough to make his dad put him in a cage for 2 hours? how does he think that is a normal punishment? i think this guy should be in jail. thats child abuse locking your kid up where they have no escape and dont even have room to move. i think he should be put in a cage and see how it goes for him. maybe hes been a vet too long.

This story is crazy i cant believe a parent would do this to his kid. Why would you even think to do that to a kid for punishment, just put him in his room why a kid? I think the parent should have to give up his child because who says thathe wont do it again. Also i think he should probably be put in jail for at least a little while. I also find it pretty ironic that the guy was a vet and he put his kid in a dog cage.

to be honest, i think it is blatantly wrong to put a human in a cage. the only cage a human deserves to be in is jail, not something that is 2 and 3 feet big. a child could not have done something that wrong that someone would lock him up in a little dog cage. there is no physical reason for that and the father should have just stayed home with him.

That's plain stupid... That vet should be put in that dog cage and parade in the streets then let's see if he will do the same thing again to his son!
