Current Event for Week of 1/11

SWAT member kills woman and injures boy.

Acting on a search warrant a SWAT member shoots a woman in the home, injuring her one year old son as well. A man who the search warrant was against was arrested at the scene. The little boy lost his finger and is in a Columbus Hospital. Toys in the front yard signaled that there was a child in the home.

Read the article here.

Should the SWAT member be prosecuted? What should his sentence be? Why do you think the police officer shot the woman?

I dont understand why anyone was shot at all. There was no reason to be shooting in an environment with 6 kids there and it didnt seem to be a hostile environment. I think he should be prosecuted because it was a complete lack of judgement to kill a women who may have not even know anything baout the drugs and now he took a finger from a kid that may have wanted to play sports or something and he may never be able to.

yes i think the SWAT member should be prosecuted. why were there gun shots when guns weren't really even needed. i don't understand why they shot a bullet. what was the purpose? this story makes me really mad because the woman probably had no knowledge on the drugs and her 1 year-old son sure knew nothing about it.

Well considering i don't know why the officer fired at the woman i can't say if i think he should be prosecuted. if he did in fact have some sort of reason for shooting the woman it may have been something that made him feel un easy, or maybe he thought the boy was in someway in danger

I think that the SWAT member should be prosecuted because he shot someone and injured a child. I don't see why a gun was shot and escpecially when there were six children were around the house. I think the Swat member should recieve what someone would if they murdered someone. There was no reason to shoot her because there was no proof that she knew about the drugs. In the event that she did know, she was no threat to the SWAT member and therefore was innocent.

i dont see any problem with this situation. the swat member had the right to come into the home. onviously there had to be some reason for his shots to be fired because law enforment officers dont just go around shooting their guns when and where they want to. it is unfortunate that innocent people were shot but thats life, you dont see any one complaing about innocent by standers getting shot, bombed, killed over in Iraq, but because its in our own contry people are going to make a big deal out of it.

Well, the SWAT guy was doing his job but he didnt have a reason to shoot the woman or even fire close to the women or her child. Well I think the police officer may have shot the woman so that the man who got arrested wouldnt use her as hostage, or maybe he was doing the right thing for the child so it wouldn't have to grow up in a bad home with bad parenting!

A search warrant is simply that - a warrant allowing permission to enter a home with the intent of searching its contents, not harming anyone inside. Because there was a clear warning that children were inside, the SWAT member should be punished greatly. Besides, it doesn't seem as if even the mother was out of control or anything that would give the SWAT member the right to shoot at all. It is a little frightening to know that there are actually people out there who are working for the police and other departments meant to protect us, when they seem more dangerous to society than the criminals they are after.

I think the SWAT member should get some kind of punishment because if it was just an investigation concerning drugs why was he shooting? I feel bad for the poor kid who was shot in the finger& shoudler. He wasn't involved at all. I would like to know more about why they shot in the first place to have opinion on the matter. I think it was wrong any of this was going on in front of six kids!

Ummm, the SWAT member should at least be investigated to make sure that there was no foul play... but our government is corrupt and they cover up crimes done by those higher up. I don't understand why the woman was shot. Did she pull out a weapon or something? I don't know so the woman (as far as I know) was killed for no reason. He should be charged with... murder, if it is in fact not her fault but if she suddenly moved or fought the man I'm not sure that he could be charged for anything. And we don't really know the whole situation maybe guns were needed, we don't know so I don't know.

I dont know why anyone was shot, but he did have a search warrant. He should never have shot a little kid unless the kid was in the crossfire, then that is uncontroabble. I think he should be prosecuted, but i dont know why he shot the woman
