Disguising as a Coke machine may be the newest way to ward off sexual predators.
29-year-old Japanese fashion designer Aya Tsukioka has invented a solution for the modest, everyday Japanese woman to feel more safe by herself at night. It is a skirt that folds out into a sheet with an actual-size picture of a Coke machine, which a person can hide behind. The idea of the vending machine disguise was inspired by a trick used by Japan's ancient ninja, who cloaked themselves under black blankets at night.

The vending machine skirt seems wierd but I guess that could be because of cultural differences. One thing though, if everyone knows about them, then wouldn't the people think to check vending machines and other things to see if they're real or not? It is a creative way of thinking, but I think I would just rather scream for help or call someone to help me instead of acting like a vending machine.
This vending machine skirt seems quite interesting. I'm not sure it will work but they are trying to cut down on the crime rate in Japan. I think the Japanese are pretty smart in trying to incorperate new ideas and techniques for warding off sexual predators.Over all this vending machine might make others start thinking in a camouflage way.
I think it is a creative way to solve one of society's biggest problems. We need people like this to come up with creative ways to protect people, because the conventional ways obviously don't work. Do i think this offers the protection needed no but it is defiantly a step in the right direction
i don't really think that the whole vending machine/skirt idea will work. it is very interesting but i don't understand how it would work at all. if you are being assaulted by a sexual predator, why would you want to hide with them there. wouldn't you rather run? i know i would.
I think that inventing a vending machine skirt is very creative, but it's not a secret anymore. If America knows, then Japan males probably know about it! Wouldn't it be easier to have a machine that you can just press a button and you can get help. It would kind of be like the life alert we have offered for elderly people.
I'm not so sure that this idea will work because if you are really that scared of sexual preditors then you would have to put the sheet over yourself like every ten feet you walk because you never know who is a sexual preditor and who isn't. untill usually it is too late and even then if someone would try to get you, you couldnt just put the sheet over you then because that person has already seen you aand aren't going to believe that you just turned into a coke machine. because if you were running from someone it would be better to yell then to just cover up.
I think that it is an awesome idea... but I'm not sure how well it will work. I mean the vending machine is made of cloth and wouldn't ripple in the wind like blow along with it and wouldn't it take a little while for a woman to unfold it and the stalker could catch up to her before she unfolds it and
I laughed out loud when I read this. I don't think it will work. How would it? So you're about to be mugged and all of a sudden you're like "hey look over there!"& all of a sudden a giant cloth vending machine arrives? I don't get it. Why not just call for help, or don't walk alone or something? I give her props for thinking of something like that though.
I think that it is an awesome idea... however I'm not sure of its effectiveness. I mean first of all, it is made of cloth and it would probably blow with the wind; secondly it takes time to unfold the skirt, and the sexual predator (if he was after her at all) could catch up to her and get her before she is safely hidden behind the cloth Coke machine; and as said by someone else won't people start looking behind vending machines to make sure that it is real or not; and thirdly people could use them for evil if they fall into the wrong hands a person could wear it and hide behind it and then jump out and rob, kill, rape, etc. someone. So, it could be a bad thing although you've got to hand it to the Japanese for trying to lower their crime rate.

Considering I think myself to be a ninja already, I think it should be fairly effective.
japanese people are quite the characters, i believe. it is hard to imagine this working, but if it does, that is very cool. i do not think an idea like this would work here. i just imagine someone freaking out and running away. not hiding behind a "vending machine." what if the predator wants something from the "vending machine? then what?
I find this very humuorous, becuase it wouldn't really stopped sexual predators, it just might attract them more. I don't think it will be effective in anyway at all.
