Current Event for 12/18

Sunday 3 climbers were missing, but one is dead. They were climbing a 11,239 foot moutain in Oregon when a blizzard hit and kept search teams at bay from finding them.

Abortion Bill Fails in Waning Republican House

The U.S. House of Representatives, in its last days under Republican control, failed on Wednesday to pass a bill that would have required doctors to offer painkillers for fetuses before they abort them. Democrats who opposed the bill said it had no basis in science and interfered with the doctor-patient relationship.

Do you believe that the fetuses should recieve painkillers?Do you think that they really can feel the pain at that age? What is your view on abortion in general: pro-choice or pro-life?

Current Event for 12/11/06

What would you do?

On Thursday, ABC aired a Primetime segment title, "What would you do?"
If you were faced with an uncomfortable social situation, would you speak your mind?

In class, we talked about discrimination and stereotypes. To believe in something (for example, to be against prejudice and stereotypes), do you have to stand up against instances of it that you witness?

Hate crimes are still a reality for a resident of North Canton.
The newspaper even hesitated to print the picture.

Current Event for 12/4/06

A man who lost his right hand 30 years ago, a hand transplant. David F. Savage was the 3rd person to have a hand transplant. He has many risk because of the long time since his injury. Another problem that they had was that his hand blood vessels has shrunk because of the years. He was the one who had the longest time without a hand that had the transplant. There is a posibility that his hand may stop working. The Dr says if it does he will do it again. It took 2 surgeries 32 doctors and 16 total hours. If the body would discharge the hand it will happen within the first couple of months

Early in his first term, President Bush received a National Security Council memo outlining the world's inaction regarding the genocide in Rwanda. In what may have been a burst of indignation and bravado, the president wrote in the margin of the memo, "Not on my watch."Five years later and nearly four years into what Bush himself has repeatedly called genocide, the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region is intensifying without a meaningful response from the White House
